No-Added Sugar Banana Milkshake
Looking for a super easy ice-cold summer milkshake that is free of added sugars and ready in seconds?
No trouble, I’ve got you covered!
Although this particular milkshake is made with banana, there is absolutely no reason why you can’t swap the banana for a handful or two of frozen strawberries or different frozen fruits. You could even swap the banana for cacao powder and a drop or two of liquid stevia – or some melted 80-90% dark chocolate – for a chocolate-y version.
And for extra decadence, add in a scoop of sugar free ice cream like this one or this one to make it even sweeter and creamier. You can add it in before blending, or serve floating on the top!
However you enjoy yours, I hope you appreciate the ease and luxuriousness of this, and that it helps show your kids that they don’t have to miss out on summer milkshakes in a low sugar family. 🙂
Super simple, 3 ingredient, no-added sugar banana milkshakes that can be adapted for strawberry or chocolate, among other flavours. Ready in 30 seconds and super creamy and delicious! Gluten free, low carb, can be made vegan.
- 1 banana, frozen*
- 500 ml (2 cups) cold milk (dairy or unsweetened non-dairy)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- small handful of ice cubes, optional (for extra cold milkshakes)
- an optional scoop of sugar free ice cream**
-
Add the banana, milk and cinnamon (with the ice, if using) to a blender or food processor (the higher the speed, the better the milkshake). Blitz until smooth and frothy. Pour into a cold glass and serve (with a scoop of sugar free ice cream, if using).
*I like to buy a huge bunch of discounted brown bananas from the shops every now and then and peel, halve, wrap in foil and freeze to keep on hand for "nice cream" and milkshakes or smoothies. If you haven't already frozen yours, give the peeled banana(s) at least 2 hours to freeze solid or add an extra handful of ice if using room temperature ones.
**for sugar free ice cream ideas, try this vanilla one, this chocolate one, this peach one or this strawberry one for different flavoured creamier milkshakes.
The recipe was great, thank you
The cinnamon may be still a bit too sweet for me. Can maybe try something like nutmeg instead?
Of course. Nutmeg would be lovely with this.
